The future iPhone / Android / Windows phone that never gets out of date and you keep FOREVER!

So the latest phone is basically the same as the one the year before but it has a couple of new features.  Maybe a better camera or its slightly faster or whatever.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could just add those new features to your current phone so that you are not tied down to a new contract?
